I love the audition process …

It marks the beginning of the cast and crew’s involvement with the show.
I’ve already had months of research, proposal writing, Rights seeking, working out the theme and design of the set and costumes.
Now is the time to draw in those people who will fit the characters, and the technical roles. Sometimes it’s not an obvious match but often it’s an “ahh” just the person.
So, let me tell you a little about being part of the play. It runs for about 90 mins. One hour for the first act and 30 minutes for the second. This timing may vary due to action within the scenes and perhaps there may be some dancing, I haven’t decided yet.
The dialogue is a conversation, with a bit of bickering. There are three characters who are in almost every scene, three who have decent stage time, and then there are roles with fewer lines but fundamental to the plot and those who are just there for a laugh. There will be some cast who have multiple roles with some fast changes, and that’s all part of the fun. I won’t say more, as I would like to keep some secrets for the cast and crew alone.
At this moment the set and costume are fairly conventional, but I envision having everything made from what already exists. Adapting existing sets and only using pre-loved fabrics. This fits into my take on the Discworld, a bit used and possibly grubby, but with a bit of magic there still life in it. I’ve seen this gorgeous piece of red velvet in the theatre, which is calling to be cleaned and made into a dress.
Now, I would love to direct and make the wonderful costumes and props but really I won’t have the time, so I need a person or team of people who are up for the challenge. There’s ghost and jester costumes, swords, crowns, daggers and cauldrons. Perhaps a tree. Do I see your hand up? Wonderful.
I would like to thank those who have already contacted me and booked their audition spot. I am so looking forward to seeing what you bring.
For those who are undecided, now is the time. Don’t miss out.
You only have 18 days.
